The wave energy plants at Hanstholm will be open for touristsCreation date: 12 April 2011 The efforts at Hanstholm to develop wave energy does not only attract attention in professional and political circles. Tourists coming to the area also show great interest in getting to know more about the position, which Hanstholm is creating as a centre for development of wave energy in Denmark.
For this reason Hanstholm Port Forum has developed special guided tourist tours, which give an exciting idea of the promising future which by all accounts should be in store for the wave energy sector of Denmark. The Hanstholm Port Forum will be responsible for the arrangements sponsored by a common LAG-application between Port of Hanstholm and Port Forum.
Hanstholm is after all – until now – home for two test plants testing the waves. Besides the WaveStar-plant, which for 1 year has been placed by the Roshage-pier north of Port of Hanstholm, the company DexaWave has recently anchored a test plant approx. 1 nautical mile outside of Hanstholm.

Tourists may during the months to come get close to the plants. Hanstholm Port Forum has established a show pavilion by the Roshage-pier, where details and perspectives of the Hanstholm wave energy venture are shown on a wall sheet exhibition. As one of the summer tourist trips it is possible to visit the pavilion, where the guests will be introduced to Hanstholm. Here is a little history and the port development plan with special focus on wave energy are the central topics for the visits carried out in Danish and English by Port Forum and hired staff.

Part of the arrangement is furthermore a presentation of the WaveStar-plant, which is connected to land by means of a footbridge. The DexaWave-plant may be ’visited’ by photos and webcam, showing the current status of the plant one nautical mile out. On a clear day the plant – a so called converter – may be seen with the naked eye.
You may register to the guided tours under the sign of wave energy HER. The price is DKK 50 per person which covers 1 ½-2 hours guided tour and a cup of coffee/hot chocolate.
