Former prime minister Poul Nyrup Rasmussen expects this Danish ocean energy co-operation to have a resonance throughout Denmark and in Brussels.

|
Last Monday, Poul Nyrup Rasmussen was elected as chairman for the Alliance for Green Offshore Energy, an initiative established with a view to securing Denmark’s position as the global leader for technologies related to the extraction of renewable ocean energy.
”Through the Alliance for Green Offshore Energy we have created the platform needed for Denmark to maintain its leading position when it comes to green energy technology. I am convinced that this initiative will soon have a resonance throughout Denmark and in Brussels”, Poul Nyrup Rasmussen says.
”A market worth billions and thousands of new jobs could end up belonging to Denmark if we manage to develop the next generation of ocean windmills and wave makers. Today, Denmark is the leader when it comes to extraction of green ocean energy; however, several other countries are wanting to take over this position”, he continues.

The ”Hanstholm team” was present and made sure that: ”wave energy=Hanstholm”
”We expect this co-operation to shorten the distance to the Danish parliament in Christiansborg as well as to the EU”, says Britta Vang Mikkelsen, who is heading the DanWEC project in Hanstholm and was present at the inaugural general meeting, ”and we expect this co-operation to ensure that when the entire industry, the Danish Wave Energy Society and the researchers point to Hanstholm as the best location for testing and developing wave energy plants, then that is in fact where the centre will be located!”
