About DanWECDanWEC – DANISH WAVE ENERGY CENTER HANSTHOLM – was established in spring 2009.
The idea behind this centre was born when incumbent climate commissioner Connie Hedegaard asked the leading researchers within the area – working at Aalborg University – "how to speed up the wave energy process in Denmark...". On these grounds, Aalborg University contacted "the best place in Denmark for waves" – Hanstholm – and followingly, several meetings involving industry representatives, politicians, business representatives etc. were held in order to find out whether people were in fact interested in the idea. And indeed they were (for more information on the industry opinion – click here – press release...).
Subsequently, an application was forwarded to the Growth Forum of Northern Jutland, whose members quickly decided that a pre-analysis of this issue would be required and initiated it in the summer of 2009.
The pre-analysis participants include the Port of Hanstholm, the Municipality of Thisted, Aalborg University as well as project owner Port Forum of Hanstholm (for more information on these four partners, visit ”Who is behind the project?").
In autumn 2009 the first Wave Star test plant arrived
Dexa Wave is now ready to be testet in Hanstholm
